Taking Care of the Exterior and Interior of Your Saturn SL2.
The Difference between a DOHC on an SOHC in Your Saturn SL2

Taking Care of the Exterior and Interior of Your Saturn SL2.

Your Saturn SL2 is an important part of your lifestyle, and you would like it to stay as good-looking tomorrow, as it did the day you bought it. This means that you need to take care of the exterior and the interior the same way that you take care of the mechanical components on your Saturn SL2 sedan.

Keeping the exterior and interior of your SL2 sedan clean is one way to maintain the like-new condition. The dirt and grime from everyday living, and driving can deteriorate interior and exterior mechanisms quickly without a thorough cleaning. This means that you need to set a date, either on mileage or on time for cleaning your SL2 sedan.

Cleaning the SL2 exterior needs to be done any time that you know that you've driven through road repair, or winter deicers preparations. These preparations are usually of a chemical base and can deteriorate the exterior of your Saturn SL2 sedan. You'll want to rinse them off immediately to keep the damage to a minimum. You'll also want to be sure that if you stepped out of your vehicle onto deiced roads, that you clean your floor mats and any interior surface that may have come in contact with these deicers or road preparation chemicals. Another way to help protect the finish on your Saturn SL2 is to give it a good wax and polish. This will help protect your Saturn SL 2 from road chemicals, and if you use one with ultraviolet protection, from sun damage as well.

When cleaning the interior of your Saturn SL2, you'll want to use manufacturers recommended products. You'll also want to be sure to thoroughly clean all heating and cooling vents, as well as any other moving mechanisms within the interior of your SL2. Dirt and road grime will eventually erode these mechanisms, so cleaning thoroughly can help them last longer. Don't forget to clean underneath the seats, and your headliner in your SL2, as dust will settle and eventually eat into carpet fibers or cloth fabrics. You may want to purchase seat covers for your Saturn SL2 to help protect your seat material. Daily use will eventually wear cloth or even leather SL2 seat material, and seat covers can help protect them, keeping them looking new for many years.

Taking good care of your Saturn SL2 exterior and interior on a regular basis can also help you keep your resale value on your SL2 at the high end of the Kelley Blue Book. A pristine SL2 no matter the age, that is in good mechanical condition is still worth quite a bit of money. So take good care of your SL2 sedan, and enjoy the benefits of an economical, sporty, Saturn sedan that was built to last and keep you safe.

The Difference between a DOHC on an SOHC in Your Saturn SL2

Your Saturn SL2 sedan came with either a 1.9L DOHC or a 1.9 L SOHC, what this means is that you either had a dual overhead cam, or a single overhead cam. The dual overhead cam engine in your 1.9 L Saturn engine gave you a sportier engine, while a single overhead cam gave you more economy.

Whether you had a DOHC or a SOHC in your Saturn SL2 basically means you either had one or two camshafts within the cylinder head on your SL2 sedan. Each SL2 model 1.9 L engine was designed to give you fuel economy, with the DOHC actually giving you more horsepower, but still with good miles per gallon fuel efficiency.

The camshaft, whether single or dual, is what rotates with valves attached for combustion, used to power your SL2 sedan. It is what turns, and allows your valves to be timed with the fuel intake, allowing combustion to occur in the exact right moment for the most power per amount of fuel. And whether you have a DOHC or an SOHC, dual overhead cam or single overhead cam in your Saturn SL to, you have an overhead camshaft versus a camshaft on the side using rocker arms to move the valves up and down.

The single overhead cam engine installed in your Saturn SL to probably allowed you up to 100 hp in your 1.9 L engine. This gave you a sporty little engine with great fuel economy. The double overhead cam engine gave you more power and still gave you relatively good fuel economy, but allowed you 124 hp for a sportier Saturn SL two sedan.

Either a DOHC or an SOHC has less mechanical difficulties than the in the older style OHC or overhead valve engine. These overhead camshaft engines are easier to get fine tuned for the high RPM engines of today and are able to have more than two valves per cylinder, allowing more power, more precisely.

So whether you have a 1.9 L DOHC Saturn engine or a 1.9 L SOHC Saturn SL two engine, not only are you going to have good fuel economy, but you're going to have a sporty little engine inside your sedan. So enjoy the power of your Saturn SL2 sedan, whether you have a dual overhead cam or a single overhead cam, Saturn built a fun, safe, sporty SL2 sedan
